Have you ever heard
of immersion courses? This is where you speak only the
language you are seeking to learn - nothing else. It is
one of the most successful methods of learning a foreign
language. Some call it the sink or swim method. Whatever
method you choose to learn Spanish,
there are a few general tips that will help you to succeed
as you go. Probably the most important thing is to decide
just exactly why you want to learn to speak Spanish - what
is your motivation? Do you want to be able to communicate
with people in any Spanish speaking country? Are you
learning this language because your employer wants you to
learn it?
Regardless of the reason you have decided to
learn Spanish,
congratulations! You are taking a step closer to expanding the
sum total of your knowledge, because as anyone who has studied
a foreign language knows, you learn far more than just the
words. You also learn customs and folklore, and you learn about
food and history, to name just a few things.
Really, there is no one perfect way to learn
any language, because each one of us has a different learning
style. The trick is to find your own unique learning style and
go for it. Perhaps you learn best by listening - great, then
copy language tapes or CDs to an MP3 player. Then keep that
player with you everywhere you go, and take every possible
moment to study by listening! You should be able to learn
Spanish in the way that works best for you, after all.
Perhaps you do best in a visual style of
learning. Try using flashcards, or purchase a course, either in
CD format or online, and work at it until you learn Spanish and are
fluent. If you can, pair up with another language student and
work together at least once a week. You will have more fun and
reinforce your language skills by speaking Spanish with someone
else. Now, get studying!!
